A look back and forward:

2008 Leopard Track and Field Highlights -

Our team did well considering we brought a relatively young team to districts.  We had some good performances and qualified 7 boys and 1 girl to state (top 4 boys and top 3 girls advanced to state.  Tayler Hill was our lone female qualifier and our sole district champion in the shotput.  She has had a great year so far and has thrown consistently well all season.  Our boys qualified our 4x400M relay, members are Daniel Estrada, Jade Patterson, Javier Galindo, and Sean Ekstrand.  Peter Miliczky and Johnny Barnes are alternates.  Jade Patterson and Daniel also qualified in the 800M Dash and Triple Jump respectively.  Brendan Shearer qualified in the 300M Hurdles and the Triple Jump.

A great year for the boys.  They went undefeated in Leagues and continued the legacy of past track teams with a repeat of league champions.  There was tough competition this year and our boys team was able to step it up.  We had some incredible times broken this year.  The 11 min. mark was broken in the two mile, and the 5min. mark was broken in the mile.  Our girls went through a building year.  We had a smaller than usual turnout, but that did not deter the girls, they came together as a group and participated in events new to themselves to help the team. Tayler Hill was district Champion in the shot put.

Overall we were able to set new PR's across the board.  Several boys made impressive marks and times to qualify for the state track meet.  The team saw much potential and is excited for the upcoming year.

ZHS Coaches Profiles (2008- )

Head Coach: Wally Shearer

I am starting my 16th year of coaching track and field and beginning my second stint as a head coach.  I started out coaching track and field in 1993 and have coached previously at Granger, Prosser, and Sunnyside before coaching at Zillah.  At  Sunnyside,  I was the Head Boys Coach from 1996-2005 and had a league record of 51-38 in the Mid-Valley League.  In 1999 the boys team was 5th in State (the highest placing of a boys track team at Sunnyside).  I have had the pleasure of coaching 1 state champion and 43 State qualifiers at the AA and AAA levels.  Most recently I have been a volunteer coach at Zillah Middle School and High School since 2006.

I am looking forward to coaching at Zillah and hope to lead you all to
another successful season.
